[Scan the Scam] Bank of America $75 checking account bonus?
I was recently looking to open a checking/savings account with either:High APY, Cash Bonus or Gift.
But you know, the bank APY these days are pretty damn low, so I’m more looking into the Cash/Gift Bonus.Couple weeks ago my friend told me that Bank of America will give $75 bonus when you open an checking account.
the difference between BoA and the other checking account outside is:
- No direct deposit is needed,
- only$25 minimum balance
- and no maintenance fees.
Today I finally get a chance to visit one of the branch next to my house. I brought my ID, social security card, a check that i’m going to deposit to my new account, and the $75 bonus page that I print out from the website. The result was disappointed, the staff there told me that they DO NOT have this bonus offer in the branch, customers will receive $75 ONLY if you open the account online. If you open account in the branch, you will only receive $25. PLUS, she told me that the $25 minimum balance is ONLY FOR THE FIRST YEAR, starting from the second you will need to have at least $750, yes “SEVEN HUNDRED and FIFTY BUCKS” in your account to avoid any maintenance fee.
I left there without opening my new account, because it sounds horrible to me. I’m going to try another branch again tomorrow. Other folks online told me that you can either open an account online/in your local branch. I will update again tomorrow and see if this is a scam.
